Hearthstone to undergo big changes in the Year of the Mammoth
With 2017 comes big changes to Hearthstone, so get ready! We’ve already heard about the changes coming to the Basic set, which we can expect after the Winter Preliminaries conclude, and competition settles down in preparation for the next expansion, whatever that will end up being. These cards will include a lot of the staples, both class specific (like Power Overwhelming and Ice Lance) and neutral cards as well (Sylvannas, Ragnaros, Bloodmage Thalnos, etc.).
We will also be saying goodbye to some of our most beloved expansions and adventures to date, being Blackrock Mountain, The Grand Tournament, and League of Explorers. There is a lot of debate as to what will end up happening to the Meta after that, and I think it’s safe to say, it couldn’t possibly be more aggro. However, since our old friend Reno Jackson will be rotating out, that’s hard to say – after all, a turn 6 Reno was one of the hardest aggro counters.

Another hot topic has been the changes coming to the classic card set – many complain as to the loss of some cards that have been around for years now, and while I admit it’s turning out to be surprisingly nostalgic for me, I do admit that change needs to happen. The Meta is as stale as it has ever been, and hopefully, even if it ends up aggro again, a combination of the basic set changes as well as a potential new adventure and many sets rotating out of standard, this can shake things up a bit.
If there was ever a time to play Hearthstone, it’s now – innovate new decks! Try things out – experiment! Giving the Meta a good shake is exactly what we need now, so especially when these changes are set into place, go play!
