Blizzard recently released the trailer for Overwatch 2 Season 12, titled New Frontiers. This update introduces a wealth of new content to the FPS, including the official launch of the Clash game mode. Clash features a series of capture points on a linear, mirrored map that players must secure. Initially, when Clash was available for testing, it only featured one map: Hanaoka, a revamped version of the original Hanamura map from Overwatch.
With the official release of Clash, Overwatch 2 has confirmed that Hanaoka won’t be the only map in the new mode. The Throne of Anubis will be one of two maps available for Clash in Season 12. Although this new map was teased in the trailer, a recent video shared on Overwatch 2's official Twitter account gave players a detailed tour of the battlefield. The map takes heroes through an outdoor city, ancient Egyptian ruins, and into the innermost sanctum of the god program Anubis.
New Overwatch 2 Clash Map – Throne of Anubis
The Throne of Anubis is a reimagined version of the Temple of Anubis, similar to how Hanaoka is a rework of Hanamura. Both original maps were part of Overwatch's initial release as Assault maps. The Temple of Anubis was actually the first map ever developed for the game and holds significant lore as the site where the Omnic Crisis began. Since Clash is an evolution of the Assault mode—removed from Overwatch 2’s core rotation—it's fitting that these iconic maps have been reintroduced in a new form.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time players have glimpsed the Throne of Anubis. Overwatch 2 teased this map back in Season 10 alongside the reveal of the new hero, Venture. Now, two seasons later, the Throne of Anubis is finally making its way into the game.
Fans are eager to try out this new map, especially after enjoying the Clash mode during its testing phase in April. Many are pleased that there will be multiple maps available for the mode. The Throne of Anubis offers diverse terrain, is visually stunning, and is deeply rooted in Overwatch lore. Players won’t have to wait long to experience it firsthand, as it will be available on August 20 with the launch of Season 12.
