FaZe Clan is currently hosting a Twitch subathon until September 30, where its creators are streaming 24/7, participating in various challenges and pranks to entertain their fans. This event is designed to take full advantage of Twitch's annual SUBtember promotion, which offers discounts on subscriptions and additional perks for fans, while also helping streamers boost their revenue.
However, the excitement took a terrifying turn on September 19 when a swatting incident disrupted the stream. According to TMZ, someone falsely reported a double murder and gave the address of FaZe Clan’s mansion in Los Angeles. Viewers watching the stream heard police officers using a megaphone, ordering the streamers to come out with their hands up.
What Happened After the Swatting Incident?
Thankfully, the situation was quickly resolved without harm, and FaZe Clan resumed their subathon afterward. To avoid potential bans or suspensions, they deleted the VOD that captured the incident. Many FaZe fans expressed their concerns, condemning swatting as a dangerous and reckless "prank." Meanwhile, FaZe members, including Ronaldo and Lacy, attempted to lighten the mood by creating memes about the incident.
Swatting is a dangerous act where the police are sent to the home of content creators based on false reports, often while they’re streaming. Streamers are frequent targets due to the public nature of their work, with many notable figures like Ludwig Ahgren, Adin Ross, and BeardedBlevins having been swatted in front of live audiences.
While many creators have escaped these incidents unscathed, the psychological toll can be significant. Twitch streamer QTCinderella revealed that repeated swatting attempts have caused her to develop PTSD. In extreme cases, swatting has led to fatalities, highlighting the severity of these pranks and the need for greater protection for content creators.
