The original release of Resident Evil 4 took a whole year to reach 3 million sales, while the remake accomplished the same feat in just two days
Capcom's latest release, the Resident Evil 4 remake, has hit the ground running, taking gamers on a nostalgic trip through the franchise's past. The publisher has announced that the game has already sold 3 million copies within the first two days of its release, a notable achievement that Capcom is understandably pleased with.
Compared to the original Resident Evil 4, which took almost a year to reach this sales milestone, the remake's strong start is a sign that interest in the Resident Evil series is as high as ever. However, it's important to consider other factors such as the growing number of gamers and the increased number of platforms the game has launched on. While the original game was only released on Gamecube and PS2, the remake is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.

Speaking of PC, the platform has recently seen a slew of subpar game ports, even with major titles. For example, The Last of Us Part I was launched this week with numerous performance issues and bugs. Fortunately, the Resident Evil 4 remake has been a shining exception to this trend, receiving nearly 23,000 positive reviews on Steam at the time of writing, representing 97% of all reviews.
Our own review of the Resident Evil 4 remake echoes this positivity, with our reviewer, Rich, lauding the game despite his dislike of some of the modern changes. He states that the game is excellent in its own right, but still can't compare to the original.
As the remake of Resident Evil 4 has been such a massive success, it's inevitable that more remakes of the series will be on the way. However, the next era of the series is not as well-regarded as the earlier titles. Resident Evil 5 marked a decline in quality for the franchise, with its colonial overtones causing discomfort for some players. Resident Evil 6, on the other hand, is hardly remembered by most players, likely due to its unremarkable nature.
