Previously, the expansion has been teased with several extended promotional videos. The latest of these was the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree story trailer, which debuted in late May 2024.
New Trailer Highlights Miquella's Voice
The final launch trailer, with a runtime of 3 minutes and 18 seconds, is the longest Shadow of the Erdtree trailer to date. It showcases numerous scenes from the expansion, revealing both major and minor moments. Notably, the trailer marks the first appearance of the voice of Miquella, the demigod central to the DLC's narrative. Originally voiced by British-American-Irish actress Naomi McDonald for content cut from the base game, it's yet to be confirmed if McDonald returned for this expansion.
Miquella's voice is heard at the beginning of the trailer, referring to someone as his "loyal blade" and "champion of the festival." This likely references Elden Ring's Radahn Festival, suggesting Miquella is addressing the Tarnished. The demigod speaks again at the end of the trailer, asking someone to promise to be his "consort," though the recipient of this request is unclear.
Diverse Environments and Notable Moments
The trailer also showcases a variety of distinct biomes, hinting at the impressive environmental diversity of the Land of Shadow. FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki previously compared the expansion's map size to Limgrave, but many previews and reviews suggest the new region is even larger and denser.
One notable moment, around the 1:40 mark, shows a hand crushing a golden eye, which appears to belong to Messmer, the Impaler, as seen in previous marketing materials. The bloody hand suggests this might be from a cutscene following an inevitable fight with Messmer, potentially indicating a multi-phase boss battle, a common feature in Elden Ring.
Release Details
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will be available on June 21 at midnight local time in most parts of the world. However, fans in North America can start playing from 9 PM PT/ 11 PM ET on June 20.
