Call of Duty and Halo: The Crossover That Almost Happened – Here's What We Know
A Call of Duty news outlet recently suggested that earlier this year, the Activision franchise nearly collaborated with Halo, but the partnership was canceled. Over the years, Call of Duty has featured numerous collaborations across different installments, and one of those almost brought the Halo universe into the world of the Activision shooter.
Both the Call of Duty and Halo series have grown alongside each other, achieving massive success, especially during the seventh console generation. With the release of Modern Warfare (2019), Call of Duty started introducing crossover cosmetics, such as the Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Skin Crawler and Saw's Billy the Puppet operator skins. In contrast, Halo has not expanded into cosmetics from other intellectual properties, with customization primarily focusing on Spartan armor. A credible source for Call of Duty news suggested that Modern Warfare 3 could have included Halo-themed cosmetics in its roster.
Recently, Call of Duty outlet Charlie Intel tweeted that a collaboration between Halo and Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 3 almost happened earlier this year. However, the reasons for the cancellation remain unknown. Although there were rumors about this collaboration, it ultimately didn't come to fruition. Given the reputation of Charlie Intel, these rumors seem more credible. Now that Activision, the publisher of Call of Duty, has been acquired by Microsoft, a crossover between the two franchises could still be possible in the future. With Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 set to release later this month, there’s a chance that the collaboration could be applied to that game instead of Modern Warfare 3.
There’s still hope that Halo could make an appearance in future Call of Duty games, especially as Activision continues to expand its offerings beyond Black Ops 6. Master Chief could be added to the game in the form of an operator skin, weapon charm, or even weapon blueprint. The potential for a Halo collaboration goes beyond cosmetics—there could be Halo-themed game modes, weapons, and more added to Call of Duty. Likewise, Call of Duty elements could make their way into Halo Infinite, which hasn’t embraced as many collaborations as Modern Warfare 3. For now, two confirmed collaborations for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 are with Little Caesars and Monster Energy.
While the Call of Duty and Halo crossover idea may be shelved for now, both franchises continue to grow, and such a partnership could still happen down the line.
