Naughty Dog Unveils The Last of Us Part II Remastered for PlayStation 5
Naughty Dog has officially revealed and swiftly released the initial trailer for the remastered edition of the critically acclaimed 2020 title, The Last of Us Part II. The announcement came earlier than planned due to a Friday afternoon leak, but the silver lining is that the wait for the remaster will be brief, with its launch on PlayStation 5 just two months away.
The Last of Us Part II Remastered takes the visually stunning PS4 game to new heights on the PS5, incorporating visual enhancements and fresh content. The upgrades include a 4K Fidelity mode, a Performance Mode scaling up to 40, an Unlocked Framerate mode tailored for VRR TVs, improved loading times, and more. In terms of new content, the offerings appear to surpass those of The Last of Us Part I.
One notable addition is the introduction of a roguelike survival mode named No Return. In this mode, players select a character and embark on a journey to survive progressively challenging encounters. A blog post from Naughty Dog hints at customizable runs, character and costume unlocks, and a global leaderboard for Daily Runs in this exciting new gameplay experience.

For those intrigued by the game's development process, Lost Levels provides insights into three levels that were omitted from the final game. New developer commentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at the thought processes and development decisions behind specific moments. The remaster also introduces additional accessibility features like speech-to-vibrations, along with added character and weapon skins. Notably, Guitar Free Play and Speedrun modes, as their names suggest, cater to music enthusiasts and speedrunning enthusiasts.
Set to be one of the first AAA launches of 2024, The Last of Us Part II Remastered will hit PS5 on January 19. While a PC port is not currently on the horizon, existing owners of The Last of Us Part II on PS5 can upgrade to the remastered version for a mere $10.
